John Somers Van Gilder was born on February 7, 1892 in Tennessee and died in June of 1971 in Knoxville, Tennessee.

This collection contains a large section of play bills and programs collected by John S. Van Gilder. These along with various other printed material and travel ephemera are housed in 12 boxes in the manuscript storage area. Each play bill or program (stored in boxes 5, 6 & 7) has a descriptive card, filed in alphabetical order by title in the Miscellaneous Collections Card File.
