Collection consists of three boxes divided into two series: Correspondence and Newspaper Clippings.


Biography / History

Betsey Beeler Creekmore (1915-1995) was a prominent local historian. Creekmore, a niece of Dr. James D. Hoskins, a president of the University of Tennessee, was educated at the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C., Vassar College, and the University of Tennessee. Her first published work, a poem, appeared when she was 5 years old. Creekmore went on to publish many other works, including Traditional American Crafts, Stepping-Stones, Knoxville, and Knox County, Tennessee: a History in Pictures. Additionally, she was active in the community and started such events as the Dogwood Arts Festival. For many years she was the official historian of Knox County.


Collection Scope and Content Note

This collection is divided into two sections. The first section contains letters written by Betsey Beeler to her mother, 1934-1935. The second section contains various newspaper clippings collected by her.
