Biography / History
Harold S. Fink was born on September 16, 1903 in Garland, Texas. He obtained his B.S. degree (with distinction) from the University of Minnesota in 1925 and then served as the Superintendent of Schools in Evansville, Minnesota until returning to school in 1927. He earned his M.A. from the University of Minnesota in 1929 and his Ph.D from Princeton University in 1936. He began his teaching career as an instructor at Hibbing Junior College in Hibbing, Minnesota, where he remained until joining the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1942. After his discharge in 1946, he began teaching at the University of Tennessee. Although known primarily as an historian of the Crusades, Fink was also very active in local history. He retired in 1974 and died in Knoxville on October 4, 1981.
