Collection consists of five volumes.

Originally known as Inman House, Shepard Inn was founded in 1820 by Shadrach Inman, one of Dandridge, Tennessee's early businessmen. In 1852, James Mitchell bought Inman House and continued to operate it as a hotel under the name Mitchell Tavern (occasionally called Mitchell House or Mitchel House). After his death, Mitchell's daughter operated the hotel until her own death, at which time Mitchell House passed to her foster daughter, Mrs. J. Walter Shepard, and the hotel's name was changed to Shepard Inn. It continued to operate well into the 1950s, and the original structure still stands as a private home in Dandridge's Historic District. Shepard Inn was known particularly for its hospitality and excellent Southern cooking, and long lines of customers were common.
