Biography / History
Knoxville, named in honor of Secretary of War Henry Knox, is the third-largest city in the state of Tennessee and the county seat of Knox County. Knoxville served as the state's capital when Tennessee was admitted into the Union in 1796 and remained so until the capital was moved to Murfreesboro in 1819.
