Biography / History
David Anderson Deaderick was born in Jonesborough, Tennessee on March 23, 1797 to David and Margarita Anderson Deaderick. He studied Greeneville College and worked in his father's general store in Jonesborough as a clerk until he left in 1819 to spend a year in England. Upon his return to Tennessee, he opened his own store. He married his third wife in 1831 and the family moved to Knoxville in 1834, where Deaderick went into business with his father-in-law John Crozier. David Deaderick died on August 27, 1873.
During his life, Deaderick served the people of East Tennessee in a number of capacities. He worked as deputy post-master of Knoxville until 1838 and participated in the California Gold Rush between 1849 and 1852. He was also involved in education, serving as a trustee of the East Tennessee Female Institute beginning in 1847, Secretary of East Tennessee College from 1838 to 1868, and Treasurer of East Tennessee College beginning in 1843.
The David Deaderick Papers were published by the East Tennessee Historical Society's Publications as "Journal of Events, 1825-1873."
