Biography / History

Lucius Polk Brown was born in Maury, Tennessee, to Campbell (1843-1893) and Susan Rebecca Polk (1847-1922) Brown on August 1, 1867. He was married twice: once to Jesse Roberts (1871-1897) on January 30, 1895 and once to Susan Massie (1871- ) on December 12, 1903. Brown managed a well-known family farm, Ewell Farm, and two plantations, Spring Hill and Melrose, for many years.

This collection contains correspondence, record books, memoranda, printed material, and other records concerning the Spring Hill and Melrose plantations in Tennessee from 1856 to 1898.
