Biography / History

Tilghman Francis Haws was born to German immigrants Edward and Sarah (Sherer) Haws on May 7, 1834 in Northampton, Pennsylvania. He married Amelia Smith on June 17, 1873 and the couple had at least four children: Alice Rebecca, Christina Grenville, Bertha Louise, and Kenneth. The couple moved to Knoxville before 1880, and Haws established himself as a printer. He died on July 4, 1916 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
