Abstract: The two diaries maintained by E.H. Rennolds, a Confederate soldier serving with the 5th Tennessee Infantry, describe the author's service throughout the Southeast, including descriptions of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. In late November 1864, Rennolds participated in battles in Spring Hill, Franklin, and Nashville. A typed transcript of these diaries (E467.1 R36) and Rennolds's autobiography (E467.1 R35 A2) are available in the Reading Room.

Biography / History
Edwin Hansford Rennolds, Sr. was born on October 30, 1839 in Locust Grove, Virginia to Robert (1805-1871) and Jane Hansford (1810-1881) Rennolds. He moved to Tennessee with his family in the autumn of 1841. He taught school from 1859 to 1861, at which time he left to take over his father's farm. He joined the Confederate Army in 1861 and was assigned to the 5th Tennessee Infantry. After the war, he returned to his father's farm and married Magaret C. Cox on January 11, 1866. They had seven children. Rennolds recieved a Baptist preacher's license in 1869, and continuted to preach throught his life. The family relocated to Florida in 1882 and moved several more times within Florida. Edwin Rennolds died on November 17, 1912.
