Biography / History

The Knoxville Female Academy was established in 1827 with John Davis as its first principal. In 1846 Knoxville Female Academy became the East Tennessee Female Institute.

This collection consists of a journal outlining the proceedings of trustees of the Knoxville Female Academy from 1827-1907. Legal papers are attached in envelope in the back of the book. From May, 1897, minutes are irregular and on loose sheets.
