Abstract: This collection houses photographs of well-known radiation biologists, including Antoine Lacassagne, Colonel Spencer Mort, and Charles L. Dunham.
Ragland, Martha
Title: Martha Ragland Collection, MS-883
Abstract: The collection contains a file of newspaper clippings, personal correspondence, and campaign literature covering the 1948 primary and general election of Estes Kefauver's first Senate campaign. Along with this is a scrapbook kept by Martha Ragland while she was chairman of the State Women's Division for the 1948 primary and general election. In it is a memo written in January, 1977 describing her involvement in the campaign and her memories of it. A button collection of various Kefauver campaigns is also included. These papers are a valuable addition to the political records of Estes Kefauver.

Abstract: This collection houses a wide array of items documenting railroads in the Southeast, including published rules and regulations, commodity tariff schedules and classification lists, passenger timetables and rate schedules, and miscellaneous items and memorabilia. Most of the material relates to the Southern Railway System and the Louisville and Nashville Railroad.

Abstract: Frances A. Ramsey, born in 1764, was the father of J.G.M. Ramsey. He served as the Clerk of Washington County and as one of the first trustees of Blount College (later the University of Tennessee). He was among the signers of the Tennessee Constitution in 1796. He died in 1820.

In it, she describes the destruction of her home in Tennessee, her journey to and life in North Carolina, the churches she attended, her religious views, her homesickness for her life in Tennessee, and her feelings toward the Union Army. She also relates family news, including news of her sons and other family members serving in the Confederate Army.

The collection also houses Raskopf's Rural Research Series, which he wrote through the Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology at the University of Tennessee.

Abstract: This bound volume consists of 80 pages of recipes, including many dessert recipes. The back of the volume contains several pages of notes on court cases, as well as a list of home remedies. The year 1906 appears on one page, but the whole of the volume is not dated.

Adam Bede and Emil Seidel, and many others.

Rennolds, Edwin Hansford, 1839-1912.
Title: E.H. Rennolds Diaries, MS-170
Abstract: The two diaries maintained by E.H. Rennolds, a Confederate soldier serving with the 5th Tennessee Infantry, describe the author's service throughout the Southeast, including descriptions of Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee. In late November 1864, Rennolds participated in battles in Spring Hill, Franklin, and Nashville. A typed transcript of these diaries (E467.1 R36) and Rennolds's autobiography (E467.1 R35 A2) are available in the Reading Room.

Abstract: The Frank M. Renshaw Papers contain a 100 page diary, an 1871 photograph of seven unidentified men, and an 1877 railroad pass. The diary contains entries from January to November, 1862, and tells of the Battles of Fort Pillow, Plum Run Bend, and Memphis, as well as the sailor's time spent on the USS Judge Torrence of the United States Navy.

Title: Mary Jane Johnston Reynolds Letters, MS-246
Abstract: This collection consists of photocopies of transcriptions of letters from Mary Jane Johnston Reynolds to her husband, Simeon Reynolds, who was serving with the Confederate 62nd Regiment of the Tennessee Mounted Infantry. At the time these letters were written, Mary Jane was living with her parents on the Johnston plantation in Loudon, Tennessee. They provide a description of life on the plantation during the first six months of 1864. The letters are prefaced with an introduction by Lucy Thomas Fowler identifying the various people mentioned therein and describing the military situation at the time.

Abstract: This collection houses a letter written by J. B. Rodgers sent on March 1, 1863 from Washington D.C. to Harry Studley of Illinois. Rodgers details his predicament in not being able to return to his home in Tennessee, where the Confederates have taken his property. He also speculates that the French might support the South, and offers his opinions on Northern politics.

Abstract: This collection consists of a letter from Alfred Roessel, a German POW being held in Camp Crossville, TN, to his wife, Irmgard Roessel, in Leipzig, Germany. It discusses the weather in Crossville, the camp's scenery, and various of Roessel's activities. It also lets Irmgard know that her "lovely photograph" arrived safely, and conveys greetings to his family. The letter is written on aerogram stationary labelled in English, German, Italian, and Japanese and bears a U.S. Censor's stamp.

We were on the south side of the river about 1 1/2 miles from the city. Now we are quartered inside of the breast works right in the suburbs... The second letter, dated February 20, 1865, is addressed from Camp Nelson -- a Union Army Supply Depot -- located in Jessamine County, Kentucky.

Abstract: This collection, the Kenneth Rush Papers, 1930-1991, contains correspondence from Rush or UT administrators (e.g., Ed Boling, Charles Brakebill, Andy Holt, and Joe Johnson) between 1962 and 1991, news articles on Rush, and other miscellaneous documents, such as a copy of Rush's UT grade report from 1930, copies of his 1962 commencement speech, biographical sketches, and a photograph.
