At that time, the 46th Pennsylvania was detailed to guard sections of the Nashville-Chattanooga Railroad.

Abstract: This collection consists of: correspondence between Dr. Davis and international colleagues, family, etc.; papers relating to the publication of his books and articles; reprints and reviews of his works and the works of other writers; as well as notebooks and journals, some describing his experiences in Norway and India. The papers date as early as 1906, a year before Dr. Davis's birth (with his parents' correspondence), and end in late 1980, a few months before his death.

Among these organizations are the Department of Good Roads for Child Welfare, the Better Babies program, the Louisiana Mothers' Congress, the National Society of 1917 World War Registrars, and the National Society of U.S. Daughters of 1812.

Abstract: In a March 21, 1972 handwritten letter of application for employment with Bryan Brothers Packing Company in West Point, MS, Byron De La Beckwith, the assassin of civil rights leader Medgar Evers, provides his employment history and his thoughts on topics such as labor unions, dealings with minority customers, integrated schools, and politics. He also lists organizations and activities with which he is affiliated.

Abstract: The Derris Slide Collection is solely composed of approximately 4400 slides from the 1940's thru the 1960's of the Great Smoky Mountains region of Tennessee. Mr. William Derris was an amateur photographer and owner of the Derris Motel (later the Laughing Horse Inn) in Townsend, Tennessee, which he photographed at length and used the slides of those photographs in a slide show for the entertainment of his Inn's numerous and varied guests.

Abstract: Housed within the Divine Family Papers, 1871-1989, are correspondence, day books, photographs, legal and financial materials, newspaper articles, genealogical materials, and more, belonging primarily to the Divine Family of Tazewell and Johnson City, TN. Over half of the materials belonged to Major Paul E. Divine. The rest of the collection belonged to Major Divine's wife Lulu Belle Milburn, her parents W.E.F. and Ella Milburn, her brother Blaine Milburn, and Lulu and Paul's daughter Milburn Sis Divine.

The letter regards an article in the Historical Society Quarterly and a request for more copies. There is also an article on the death of Dr. Dodge in 1937.

Abstract: The Lewis Dolino Tax Record, 1841, is a record for county, school, and road taxes in Mobile, Alabama. The one-page tax form allows calculation for taxation on slaves under ten years of age, slaves between ten and sixty years of age, poll tax, pleasure carriage, horses, gold watch, metal clock, and wood clock.

Abstract: This collection documents the activities undertaken by Dougherty following his retirement from the U.T. Engineering faculty in 1956. Included are galley proofs of manuscripts intended for publications; numerous articles, speeches, lecture notes, essays, etc. by Dougherty reflecting his wide range of interests in addition to engineering; and notes and miscellaneous correspondence relating to Dougherty's long association with the Southeastern Conference (SEC) and college athletics. Of particular interest are a group of materials (Box 2, Folder 1) relating to Dougherty's induction intot he National Football Foundation and Hall of Fame in 1967.

He also discusses the death of Mrs. Tyler and methods of pressing and preserving flowers.

He also notes that there is no alarm here about cholera, though there are some deaths nearly every day.

Abstract: This collection houses a letter written by B. Dufield written on August 8, 1863 from Winchester, Tennessee to John Lillyoth. Dufield informs Lillyoth that Federal troops have been confiscating cotton without orders from the Treasury Department, although the region is not pro-Confederate, and hopes for higher officials to correct the problem.

Abstract: The Durham Coal & Iron Co. Records, 1906-1929, contains a report by W.F.B. Berger on March 6, 1929, with a detailed evaluation of the Chattanoogan mines, timber reserves, and their values, as well as of the geology of the company properties. Included are several past reports from 1926 thru 1928. Blueprints and a digest of Berger's report were found loose in the report and are listed as separate items in a separate folder.
