Abstract: In a deposition in Burke County, NC, court, dated March 4, 1789, Joseph McDowell testifies that James Cook told him that David Nelson had taken a gun from him then said took an otter skin shot pouch in the year of 1780. While Cook has attempted to get payment from Nelson, Nelson will not pay. The testimony notes that this took place shortly before the action at King's Mountain.

Abstract: The Ted Carlson Papers, 1912-1969 (bulk 1932-1960), consists primarily of the incoming and outgoing correspondence of Carlson, a New York City psychiatrist who, in 1944 and 1945, worked as a laboratory engineer on the Manhattan Project. While the bulk of Carlson's outgoing correspondence is from post-World War II years, a number of the letters from mid- to late-1945 provide insight into his views on the use of atomic energy as a military weapon. Other papers, including those related to Carlson's military service, are also included in the collection.

Among other things, the memo book records Burnett's experiences during the Civil War (1862-63), lists accounts for soldiers' provisions, and provides descriptions of Burnett's career as a Baptist minister (1871-79), including notes on ordination services, reports of service and labor, etc. The copied documents include Burnett's 1846 marriage certificate, articles about churches where he preached, Civil War service records, and pension and disability affidavits.
